America's Boating Club/The United States Power Squadron is composed solely of volunteers. We all share a common passion for boating, safety, and teaching others. While none of us are experts in every discipline, we are successful because of the diversity and strength of our team!

I joined CSPS/USPS the spring of 2012. My first event was a Vessel Safety Check at the New Galena Boat Ramp. While I wasn't an examiner or knew anyone, but I wanted to get involved and gain some experience. At the VSC everyone was welcoming and more than happy to explain what was going on and where I could help the most. I assisted in flagging down the steady stream of boaters coming to the ramp, telling them about the VSC we are doing. Nothing technical but I was doing what I could to get involved.

As the VSC slowed down we all sat around talked about boating adventures. Michale H. told me about this huge boating event coming up, "The Buckeye Lake Poker Run" hosted by Ron Hupman and suggested I R.S.V.P. for it. I took him up on the invite and went the event.

This was such a great event and anyone that has been to one of his Poker Runs can attest the amount of time Ron puts into this is staggering. We had 5 stops to collect our hands, covering the length of the lake. He had arranged for us, an open invitation to have lunch at the historic and very prestigious, Buckeye Lake Yacht Club. Followed by an amazing reception and dinner at Ron and Barbra Hupman's home.

Our volunteers do more than plan great events and arrange dinner gatherings throughout the year. We manage the operation and direction of the club.

We are always looking for members that would like to get involved. There are needs during cruise events, trade shows, recruitment, classes, Vessel Safety Checks, and much more. I would be happy to talk to you about getting involved with our club.
