DELAWARE, Ohio — America’s Boating Club of Central Ohio (aka United States Power Squadron) founded in 1914 is the nation's largest and oldest safe boating organization dedicated to recreational boating safety and education will be conducting free vessel safety checks for area boaters during several scheduled events in May.

The voluntary inspections are designed to help boaters ensure their vessels meet state and federal safety equipment requirements before the peak boating season. Trained volunteer examiners will review required safety items and provide guidance on boating safety practices. No citations or penalties are issued during vessel safety checks.

  • May 30: Cheshire Boat Ramp, Delaware

  • May 31: New Galena Boat Ramp, Delaware

Boaters who successfully complete the inspection will receive a Vessel Safety Check decal indicating their vessel met safety standards at the time of the examination.

Vessel safety checks typically review items such as life jackets, fire extinguishers, navigation lights, sound-producing devices and other required safety equipment.

The program is offered as a public service to help improve boating safety and awareness in the community.
